Testimonials from participants on the Viewpoints and Creative Composition Workshop in Space 54!
Testimonials from participants on the 3day Viewpoints & Creative Composition Workshop held in Space 54, Smithfield, Dublin 7 on June 9th, 10 & 11th 2010. Co-Facilitated by Aoife Connolly and Andrea Scott.
Great facilitators, great space. Nice balance between feedback, free jams, focused exercises and composition. I think this work reveals itself. Helpful with my freelance drama facilitation and directing shows with the youth theatre, also helpful in devising pieces and physicalising text”. Aine Caulfield – Drama Facilitator
“Very well structured, allowing a clearly staged progression for participants. Highlights included training of kinetic memory, sensitivity to group work, expansion of spatial and temporal awareness; and freeing up of physicality and physical connection.” Duncan Keegan – Actor
The workshops helped me become ‘in tune’ with my own energy/ movement – a form of expression that encourages movement that is unselfconscious. The setting is perfect. The group also taught me so much… The work is challenging but the intensity is fruitful.” Caroline Lynch – Teacher
I really enjoyed the course. Being vocally present in my entire body, becoming aware of all vocal dynamics rather than simply the emotional element. I love Viewpoints! ” Eimear Lindsay – Actor
The workshop was of real value to my teaching work …. Helps to take focus off language, creates an awareness of group dynamics and reduce nerves and self consciousness. Performance techniques are helpful to singing also. I learnt alot about physical awareness, movement and attention. Great feeling of mindfulness and presence.” Charlotte Rush – Teacher
3 day Viewpoints and Creative Composition Workshop

No experience necessary!
Location: Space 54, Smithfield, Dublin

There are nine Viewpoints of space and time:
Tempo, Duration, Kinesthetic Response, Repetition, Shape, Gesture, Architecture, Topography and Spatial Relationship.
Composition builds on this toolkit adding theme and text to create original dramatic pieces.
Once the ensemble has experienced working with each Viewpoint the course evolves to ‘open viewpoint’ improvisations i.e. jamming sessions. Space, shape, time, movement, emotion and story fuse together and ignite spontaneous creative play.
This process offers essential performance skills promoting physical presence and ensemble play. Theatre makers develop key devising tools to generate bold theatrical work quickly as a common vocabulary is shared between artists.
On day one the class will be given a Composition Challenge and asked to work towards a presentation for our final day workshop. We will be exploring a specific theme to be announced on the day!
The 3 day workshop is Co-Facilitated by Aoife Connolly and Andrea Scott, both have trained with Anne Bogart and SITI Co. in New York.
‘The course was wholly practical; starting with the simple and layering progressively more challenging exercises on that structure until we were completely immersed in the work. The result for me was a feeling of being completely present in my work’ Eimear Lindsay – Actor
